108 Jangchub Chortens, or Stupas of Enlightenment, have been raised along the Mau Chhu River at Gelephu Mindfulness City in Bhutan. The 15-m-high stupas are sacred Buddhist monuments representing the Buddha’s enlightenment, with 108 a sacred number in Buddhism. Built by 40,000 volunteers in a single day, the stupas form a procession through Gelephu Mindfulness City. The royal initiative, known as Project 108, is dedicated to bestowing blessings upon the future city and brought together Bhutan’s Royal Family and visitors from across the country and abroad for its completion.
