The new mixed-use tower at 175 Third Street, designed by BIG and dencityworks, is now under construction in Gowanus. As the newest addition to the Gowanus Wharf development by Charney Companies and Tavros, the project will include over 1,000 apartments, approximately 250 of which will be affordable; an 85,000-sq-ft Life Time fitness center; and a 28,000-sq-ft public waterfront esplanade designed by Field Operations. Spanning 27 stories and over one million sq ft, 175 Third Street is formed as a collection of stacked concrete volumes arranged in a horseshoe formation that opens toward the canal and new waterfront park, with an internal stepped courtyard and rooftop terraces designed by BIG Landscape. Marking a major milestone in Gowanus’s ongoing growth following a major rezoning in 2021, the groundbreaking was celebrated with a ceremony that brought together Charney Companies and Tavros; the design teams from BIG, dencityworks, Field Operations; and others.
