British daily newspaper The Guardian published an in-depth story on Copenhagen’s Nordhavn neighborhood, home of BIG’s Copenhagen HQ. Nordhavn, The Guardian writes, embodies the ambitious “five-minute city” concept, where all daily amenities – homes, workplaces, schools, shops, and social spaces – are accessible within a five-minute walk. Built on a redeveloped industrial peninsula, Nordhavn prioritizes pedestrian-friendly design, cycling, and public transport over cars, aligning with Copenhagen’s broader goal of carbon neutrality. Architecturally anchored in Copenhagen Harbor’s heritage of warehouses and factories, BIG HQ is BIG’s first example of fully integrated LEAP design – a collaboration between Landscape, Engineering, Architecture, and Product designers.
