Google has unveiled the name for its landmark new London building, Platform 37, as a nod to its neighbor, King’s Cross railway station, and “Move 37” – a pivotal play made in the legendary AlphaGo vs. Lee Sae Dol ‘Go’ match in 2016. The 11-storey building will house employees from DeepMind, Google’s AI research lab, and other Google teams starting in summer 2026. The design for the ground up building in London’s King’s Cross neighborhood is rooted in the local character of the area, creating continuously cascading work environments that connect Googlers across multiple floors. By opening up the ground floor and activating the roofscape, the light and airy workspaces are sandwiched between terraced gardens on the roof, and the AI Exchange, a public space for exploring and discussing AI, on the ground. Designed with low-carbon construction materials that reduce the carbon impact of the building by 20%, Platform 37 supports Google as the company works toward a more sustainable future.
