The first portion of the Sports Bowl at Claremont McKenna College in California is officially open, with football activities underway. Designed by BIG and open to the CMC community for recreational use, the Sports Bowl repurposes the site’s existing gravel quarry, transforming it into a series of sports fields nested within a larger bowl. Accessible through a new walking passage underneath Claremont Boulevard known as The Arcade, the Sports Bowl will open in phases, with phase one including the Patrick G. Rogan Stadium for football, track and field, and lacrosse; the Abbott Brown Family Central Plaza, a courtyard area between the Arce baseball and Athenas softball fields; a golf training center; and a variety of walkable pathways and landscapes with native plantings that support the local wildlife habitat.
