BIG has been chosen to design Shakira Stadium at Macondo Park, the venue for the global pop star’s three-night residency in Madrid. Set on the site of Iberdrola Music and able to hold over 50,000 fans, Shakira Stadium at Macondo Park is conceived as a living environment active before, during, and after each show – standing as an alternative to the traditional music venue, which often sits dormant in between events. Colorful, curvilinear paths draped in recycled fabrics guide visitors through layered public spaces that unfold across the site, including markets, artisan stalls, children’s zones, and VIP areas. Surrounding the stadium, green islands feature native plantings from Spain and Latin America, extending the energy of the stage outward into the venue and surrounding neighborhood. An immersive expression of contemporary Latinidad, Macondo Park is rooted in nature and human connection – a new beating heart for the city of Madrid.
