U.S. magazine The Hollywood Reporter received a sneak peek of Wildflower Studios in Astoria, Queens – the film, TV, production, and creative studio complex designed by BIG and developed by Wildflower Ltd. with actor and film producer Robert De Niro, his son Raphael, and film producer Jane Rosenthal. The article addresses the studio’s inception and design alongside New York’s film industry, with quotes from BIG Founder and Creative Director Bjarke Ingels, Robert De Niro, and Wildflower Ltd.’s Managing Partner Adam Gordon.
With Wildflower Studios, BIG reimagines the typical side-by-side arrangement of film studios on large lots to house the future of film within a reduced footprint, suitable for the dense urban environment of New York City. In the article, Bjarke says of the project: “It was very fascinating that a three-dimensional film studio had never been created before. Architecture is so governed by what’s already been done, that with the proven success of Wildflower, I think it’s going to open a door for many similar projects.”
