THE MUSEUM FOR PAPER ART FEATURED IN ‘EFTERLIV’ AT UTZON CENTER

07.10.2026

BIG’s design for the Museum for Paper Art is featured in Efterliv – En hyldest til de besværlige bygninger (Afterlife – A Tribute to Difficult Buildings), an exhibition at Utzon Center in Aalborg exploring how existing buildings across Denmark can be transformed and given new purpose. On view through April 4, 2027, the exhibition brings together 17 transformation projects by Danish architecture studios, spanning former factories, schools, supermarkets, and other existing structures.

Originally built as an Aldi supermarket in Hune, North Jutland, the existing 900-m² building is being transformed and expanded into the 2,300-m² Museum for Paper Art. Rather than replacing the existing structure, the design retains the building and brings old and new together beneath a lightweight roof conceived as a single sheet of paper draped across the site. The expanded museum will provide new spaces for exhibitions, workshops, events, teaching, and other activities dedicated to paper art, craft, and design.
